Warren Kimble at the Shelburne Show 9 10 2008
Warren’s fabulous show at the Shelburne Museum has drawn record crowds all summer long. It’s an amazing retrospective collection of his work, from early experiments with representation to his world renowned folk art, and on to his most recent “Widows of War” series. The latter is a somber and moving response to the Iraq war, particularly speaking to the hardship and sorrow of the people left behind. Don’t miss the display in the center of the barn, only visible through a small barred window. It’s a chilling and eloquent statement.

The Shelburne Museum is a wonderful place with much to explore. Not only is the location spectacular, perched on an graceful hilltop above Lake Champlain, but the content and company are fabulous. On the ground floor of the Round Barn there is an excellent exhibit of artful pocketbooks. Amazing, beautiful, thought provoking creations. Also in the Round Barn is a display of carousel creatures. Hand-carved wooden art work that boggles the mind! Additionally, in another building on the spacious grounds of the museum is an exhibit of paintings, and drawings by Mary Cassatt. She had a life-long friendship with Shelburne Museum founder Electra Havemeyer Webb.

What a line-up! 3 04 2008

April in Vermont is the cruelest month- wait- somebody else said that!
It’s blowing and cold, or warm and sunny…. and then more bitter chill and snow. The good news is that sap is flowing in the maples and the creek is rising. Spring is really on it’s way.

Warren and I were chatting today about upcoming events. He is so busy! Speaking engagements and shows galore. A few things I know about… He is speaking tomorrow for a group in Burlington. Then he’s the guest speaker for the Vermont Watercolor Society at their annual meeting in Middlebury on April 20th.
On May 2 the Preservation Trust of Vermont has arranged to have him give an afternoon tour of Brandon for their annual conference. The line-up for that conference is very impressive. Warren will be sharing the billing with David Macauley, author of The Way Things Work, one of my son’s favorite books, and history professor Kevin Thornton. The list of choices for activities is quite enticing. How to decide???

And then there is the SHELBURNE MUSEUM EXHIBITION where Warren’s work will be on display in the Round Barn, which he has painted so artfully.
Quite a lineup for the next few months! The Shelburne opening will take place May 18, and the show closes October 26, 2008.

Where’s Warren Kimble? 24 01 2008
I am fortunate to have been an FoW and FoL for many years now. That’s a friend of Warren and Friend of Lorraine Kimble. Warren is well known as one of America’s favorite contemporary folk artists, but around town, he’s just Warren, renowned as an idea man, the mover and shaker who gets things going and hangs in to help make sure things happen. Lorraine is always behind the scenes organizing and problem solving too. She is known as the Queen of Color, the Duchess of Design. Many stores and businesses throughout town owe their warmth and pizazz to Lorraine’s color consultations.

We also represent Warren’s original artwork and signed archival reproductions in our gallery, the Liza Myers Gallery, in the lovely town of Brandon, Vermont. The governor of Vermont has called Brandon the Art and Soul of Vermont, a title with which we are very comfortable. And much of it due to Warren & Lorraine’s efforts to revitalize the sleepy, little town. Over the years they have renovated and converted more than 18 old houses into treasured homes throughout the town.

Where’s Warren now? Probably in his studio getting ready for his trip to Arizona where he will have two Scottsdale openings in February. The first is at the Robert Roman Gallery. I’ll put up more about the second when I get the details.

Here is a picture of me with Warren at Pallette Palooza, an event in Montpelier Vermont celebrating a community arts project that included 27,000 people. (more or less)
